Matthew Stafford, the Los Angeles Rams' starting quarterback, wants one thing for the team – security.

What that looks like is a restructured contract that ensures he will be in Los Angeles for the final two years of his deal.

The question has become whether the Rams will give it to him.

On Thursday morning, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network provided some much-needed insight into the contract talks between Stafford and the Rams.

“Matthew Stafford has his salary for this year guaranteed. After that, $32 million, $31 million, but none guaranteed," Rapoport said. "This is a guy that did have an elbow issue a year ago. I think a lot of people were wondering, ‘Is this the end for Matthew Stafford? Are the Rams going to draft a quarterback?’ There was a lot of that going on, then he went out and had a year where he looked like the old Matthew Stafford: 4,000 yards, 24 touchdowns. Really put a really young team on his back.”

Though Stafford would like a little more security, he doesn't plan to hold out on any team activities once training camp starts.

The Rams' starter doesn't have much left in the tank. He is still a quality starter, but he won't be in the league much longer. Los Angeles ought to do right by him soon.
