When Matthew Stafford walked into the 2023 season, questions were looming about his retirement.

And then, he let his play on the field change that.

Stafford led the Rams on an incredible run after a slow start, which landed Los Angeles in the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs, where they lost to Stafford's old team, the Detroit Lions. For the veteran's play during the 2023 season, he earned a Pro Bowl nod, and most recently, he was labeled as one of five players to be a finalist for the AP Comeback Player of the Year award.

The 2022 season, like most Rams players, was rough for Stafford. He appeared in nine games, dealing with various ailments and injuries. He threw only 10 touchdown passes, a mark that mirrored the 2010 season when he only appeared in three games.

Stafford, aside from leading the Rams to a 10-7 record, threw 24 touchdowns and 3,965 yards. He also finished sixth in the NFL in QBR with 63.7.

But the path to winning the award won't be easy for Stafford. He is also nominated as a finalist alongside Joe Flacco, who led the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs, Damar Hamlin, who came back from nearly dying on the field, and Baker Mayfield, who led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the playoffs after struggling in 2022, and Tua Tagovailoa.
