Matthew Stafford practice saga takes another dramatic turn that even Sean McVay may not have expected
Stafford continues to deal with his back injury. Yet another curveball has been thrown LA’s way.
The Los Angeles Rams are dealing with a new let down. They were hoping to get a look at their starting unit for Sean McVay’s offense to kick off this week, but a key piece to that puzzle seems to still be unavailable.
Matthew Stafford not practicing on Monday
According to Adam Grosbard, the Rams quarterback is in street clothes at Rams practice on Monday. The veteran QB was expected to return to practice to begin the week, but that does not seem to be the reality for Stafford. He continues to nurse a back injury.

The Rams have been cautious with Stafford as he tries to recover from this back injury. The time is ticking ahead of the start of the regular season, though.
This is yet another twist to the injury situation regarding Matthew Stafford. Head coach Sean McVay praised Stafford’s recent throwing workout and revealed that they plan to progress him back into practice on Monday (today).
McVay also shared that Stafford was able to get significant work in on Saturday despite not being active for the game. Saying Stafford “threw more than 60 passes” as well as sharing that “there were no limits to the type of throws he made.” QB 1 seems ready to go, and we will see on Monday if there’s any rust from missing the last couple of weeks. I, for one, am never going to doubt Stafford, who has shown time and time again that he is one of the toughest players in the NFL. — Destin Adams, A to Z Sports
This absence from the QB may also surprise McVay a bit. Clearly, he felt like Stafford could make his return by now, but there’s something still preventing that. That’s quite the curveball when you’re trying to prep an offense just weeks away from Week 1.
