Matthew Stafford was agonizingly close to leading the Los Angeles Rams to a memorable comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round, but it didn't take long after his desperate fourth-down pass on their final drive sailed out of bounds for questions about his future to begin.

Stafford will turn 37 next month and Rams adjusted his contract in July to give him more money up front in 2024 while decreasing the amount of dead money they would take on if he retired this offseason.

The possibility of him calling it a career therefore looms large over the Rams' potential plans for 2025 but, asked about his future by reporters in the locker room after the game, Stafford appeared to indicate he likely will be continuing his career for one more year at least.

"It’s 30 minutes after the last game so I’ll take some time to think about it but I feel like I was playing some pretty good ball," Stafford said.

Pressed on whether he has football left in him, Stafford replied: "Sure feels like it."

There is of course the possibility that Stafford elects to go out on top and quit while he still feels at the top of his game.

However, a heartbreaking loss that came down to the last possession at the end of a season in which the Rams started 1-4 will surely give Stafford significant motivation to try to finish the job in 2025.

With the Rams having unfinished business to deal with and Stafford feeling like he still has what it takes to continue his elite play, the odds point to him being back for at least one more ride next season.
