Matthew Stafford got what he wanted.
More assurance moving forward.
At the start of training camp, it was reported that Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams reached commonality in a revised contract. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday that Stafford's reworked deal resulted in the quarterback giving up guarantees in 2025 and playing the 2024 season on a one-year deal worth $40 million.
Stafford has more immediate future assurance while leaving his options open after the 2024 season.
He is coming off a season that saw the signal caller return to near-elite form.
"He elevates the play of those around him," a high-ranking official with an NFL team said to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Puka Nacua is a good player — but he's not the same guy without Stafford. He helps those guys reach their potential."
Another NFL executive added: "The arm strength hasn't left him — he can still make every throw to every part of the field. He attacks the intermediate windows and the middle of the field with accuracy. Cooper Kupp missed [five games] and he kept them afloat."
He now has the contract he wanted, leaving his mind clear to focus on doing what he does best: Play football.
