The Los Angeles Rams' signing of former Washington Commaners safety Kamren Curl this offseason was viewed as one of the most underrated moves in the league.
After a bit of a slow start to his first season with the Rams, Curl has had a fantastic second half of the season. But ahead of their final regular season matchup before heading into the playoffs, the NFL hit Curl with some news he didn't want to hear.
Kamren Curl fined for illegal act from the Rams Week 17 win over their divisional rivals the Cardinals
The NFL announced that Curl has been fined for "Unnecessary Roughness" for using his helmet to tackle Arizona Cardinals running back Michael Carter. This fine comes after Curl's best stretch as a Ram. Over the past three games, he has recorded five of his nine pass deflections on the season. He is coming off his season-high of 10 tackles and even had his only sack of the season in Week 16.
The officials did not flag this play, but as soon as the replay showed, a fine was expected. Curl is being fined $22,511.00 for his illegal hit. The NFL handed out 35 fines in total from the Week 17 slate, and Curl's was tied for the second-most expensive.
The Rams, who have already clinched the NFC West championship, will rest multiple starters. They now have their eyes set on a first-round home game as the fourth seed in the NFC. They will host the loser of the highly anticipated Week 18 matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings to decide the top seed.
