Matthew Stafford is staying put in Los Angeles.
According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Stafford and the Rams have agreed to a contract restructure. The numbers are still being finalized, but the deal will factor in the 37-year-old veteran as year-to-year.
The Rams' official X account also made it official.
That closes out multiple weeks of drama that has built up around Stafford and the Rams. Following the news of Los Angeles' plans to trade wide receiver Cooper Kupp this offseason, Stafford began to re-think his future with the Rams a bit.
Things then seemed to escalate last week when L.A. granted permission to Stafford’s agent to speak with other teams about his value. Trade speculation began to run rampant, with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants going as far as to put out contract offers for Stafford.
Rumors of Aaron Rodgers replacing Stafford at QB also starting picking up. Rodgers has expressed interest in playing for the Rams, and L.A. was reportedly interested in acquiring him four years ago. However, it appears likely that none of those scenarios were ever real.
Carefully examining how things are worded is everything during the NFL offseason. Just because the Rams were looking to see what Stafford's value on the open market was didn't necessarily mean they were going to trade him. Smokescreens are a big deal during free agency and draft season as teams try to outmaneuver each other to get the best deal they can.
At the end of the day, the Rams did exactly what they wanted to do. They kept communication open and honest between them and Stafford, gauged his value, and worked out a solution with him. It was also a good decision on Stafford's part, as he likely wouldn't have gone to a better situation than the one he has in L.A. Stafford and the Rams will now push to get back to the Super Bowl after their championship win during 2021 season.

On Monday, the Los Angeles Rams announced their coaching staff for the 2025 NFL season. While there weren't too many changes from their playoff-bound 2024 staff, the team did announce six new hires from across the league. One of those in particular caught my eye and has made me more excited for this upcoming season […]
