The Los Angeles Rams were able to retain Matthew Stafford this offseason. But the fact that they were close to losing the star quarterback should tell the team it's time to prepare for life after Stafford.
In a new A to Z Sports 2025 NFL mock draft, the Rams do just that by drafting a top QB in the class to hopefully become Stafford's future replacement.
Rams select Ole Miss Jaxson Dart to be Matthew Stafford future replacement at quarterback in a new mock draft

"There was a moment this offseason when it really looked like the Rams and Matthew Stafford were going to part ways. In the end, they were able to keep the star QB in Los Angeles, but the situation makes you think it might be time for them to prepare for life after Stafford. Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart is a polarizing prospect who has a lot of fans across the league but also plenty of haters in the draft community. From talking to scouts, I believe the NFL is higher on him than people realize, and I think there's a good chance he end up being a first-round pick. I think his arm and mobility would be an excellent fit for Sean McVay, and he would have a fantastic mentor in Stafford to sit behind and learn from for a year or two while he develops the mental side of playing the position."
– New A to Z Sports Mock Draft
Jaxson Dart is coming off the best year of his four-year college career. He threw for a career-high 4,279 yards, which led the SEC, and 29 touchdowns. If you just watched Dart's highlight reel, you would leave wondering why he isn't in discussion to be the number one overall pick, but sadly, he also has some really low lows.
Finding consistency is going to be priority number one for whichever coaching staff gets tasked with developing him into a starting NFL QB. He has a really nice foundation, though, with a strong arm and solid mobility. I think McVay would be a perfect offensive mind to mold Dart, and getting to sit behind and learn from Stafford for a year or two wouldn't hurt either.
