The Los Angles Rams have agreed to terms with free agent defensive tackle Poona Ford on a three-year, $29.6 million contract, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Ford remains in Los Angeles, but will jump ships from the Chargers to the Rams. A former undrafted free agent in 2018, Ford began his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks. He started 32 games during his four-year stint in Seattle, then joined the Buffalo Bills in 2023.
Ford struggled to fit in with the Bills, appearing in just eight games for them with zero starts. He then signed with the Chargers in 2024, and experienced a career resurgence in defensive coordinator Jesse Minter's system. Ford recorded 39 total tackles, three sacks, nine quarterback pressures, one interception, and five passes defensed last season.
His 85.1 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2024 ranked fifth among 219 qualifying interior defensive linemen. Still just 29-years-old, Ford is in the prime of his career and has finally secured the contract he has been chasing after for seven years. It's a great deal for both sides, as (roughly) $10 million per year isn't going to break the bank for the Rams. Ford will give the Rams' defense a boost in both pass rush and run defense. L.A. ranked 21st and 22nd respectively in those categories last season.
This move marks the second big acquisition in as many days for the Rams, as they signed multi-time All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams on Sunday. L.A. is making sure to round out its roster on both sides of the ball in order to have a complete team. Similar to their 2021 approach, when they won Super Bowl LVI, the Rams are stockpiling veterans who are well experienced and still playing at a high level.
