The final drive of the Los Angeles Rams' season ended with a punt, and tight end Tyler Higbee had to watch the last few plays from the sideline after taking a hard hit to his right knee from Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph. He may be sidelined for a lot longer during the offseason.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams believe Higbee suffered a torn ACL from the hit.

The timing between Higbee planting his right foot and Joseph's helmet colliding with his knee couldn't have been worse as Higbee's leg bent unnaturally before he was sent tumbling to the turf. Higbee gingerly walked off the field after being looked at by trainers.

If it is a torn ACL for Higbee, his status for the start of the 2024 regular season is very much in doubt. A torn ACL used to be followed by a year-long recovery process back in the day. Players nowadays are able to return after about nine months, but every recovery is different since every tear is unique.

Nine months from now is just after the start of the 2024 season. That's the best case scenario for Higbee if the MRI reveals what they fear.

Los Angeles signed Higbee to a two-year extension on September 29 of this past year. The deal essentially locks Higbee in for the upcoming season, and his cap number will be the highest its ever been with the team at $11,601,286.

With luck, Higbee is able to play the entire 2024 season, but an entire offseason spent rehabbing and recovering will be the cost.
