The Los Angeles Rams might lose cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon in NFL free agency, so they made sure they had a contingency plan – one of their former players Darious Williams.
Williams was recently cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the same team that signed him in 2022, so the Rams made sure to scoop him up before the official start of the NFL season on March 13. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news.
Williams turned in a very good 2020 season when he recorded a career-high four interceptions. He was a key piece to the Rams' Super Bowl run in 2021, even if he didn't record a pick, that year. The Rams are hoping Williams can rediscover that magic under new defensive coordinator, Don Shula.
He recorded four interceptions, last year, but wasn't considered to be a fit with the Jags and their new defensive coordinator, Ryan Nielsen. It makes sense for the soon-to-be seventh year player to go back to the system in which he flourished. Shula will definitely carry over Brandon Staley's/Raheem Morris' system that many teams are trying to replicate, these days.
Details of the deal are currently unknown but we will update the article once they're provided.
