For the third consecutive year, the Los Angeles Rams are signing cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to a one-year contract.

Witherspoon has been an underrated contributor for the Rams' defense each of the last two seasons. A former third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers, the eight-year veteran has also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Witherspoon has started 30 games in total for Los Angeles, recording 83 total tackles, 23 passes defensed, and four interceptions. Because he signed so late in 2024, he appeared in only 15 games (including the playoffs), but by season's end Witherspoon was the Rams' top CB.

The CB room was looking pretty bleak before re-signing Witherspoon, but now L.A. has a little more flexibility entering the 2025 NFL Draft, which is just a little over one month away. CB is still a need, but with Witherspoon back in the fold the Rams can feel less pressure to take one if there's another player at a different position available that they like.

In A to Z Sports' latest 2025 three-round mock draft, our draft guru Ryan Roberts had the Rams selecting CB Azareye'h Thomas with the 26th overall pick. However, that was before they brought back Witherspoon. In a different draft, which was a full seven-round mock, Roberts predicted L.A. to take tight end Colston Loveland — which would really round out the offense.

He then had the Rams take CB Cobee Bryant in the third round, signaling that they will still want to use a relatively high pick on the position. Regardless of how the draft shakes out, they will likely look to shore up the secondary heading into the 2025 season. The Rams have done a good job of building a deep roster to set themselves up for another Super Bowl run.
