The Los Angeles Rams have re-signed backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a one-year contract, per a report from NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Garoppolo started the Rams' Week 18 game against the Seattle Seahawks after coach Sean McVay decided to rest the starters in preparation for the playoffs. Los Angeles was edged out 30-25, as Garoppolo completed 27 of 41 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns, also throwing one interception.

It was a valiant effort from Garoppolo and the Rams considering they were playing with mostly backups against a Seahawks team that was playing to win. Garoppolo is about as good as a team can have in a backup QB, with 11 years of experience and 64 games started under his belt.

At 33-years-old, Garoppolo's days as a franchise QB are over, but he can still play at a high enough level to win some games in relief of starter Matthew Stafford if need be. Stafford stayed healthy throughout the season in 2024, as Week 18 was the only game that Garoppolo appeared in.

The decision by L.A. to bring back Garoppolo makes a firm statement that there are no plans to develop a QB of the future at this time. Despite being 37-years-old, the Rams recently recommitted to Stafford with a restructured contract that will keep him as their starter through at least the 2026 season.

Re-signing Garoppolo means that the Rams feel like they are about to make another run at winning the Super Bowl. Had they declined to bring him back and drafted a QB to back up Stafford instead, they would have had to go through the growing pains that come with having a rookie QB. There also may not be a QB that they're very high on in this year's draft.

L.A. just signed multi-time All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year deal on Sunday, which is another signal that it is going all-in for the 2025 season. The Rams' offense is full of veterans who have played at a high level for many years and have loads of experience. Keep an eye out for them to soon trade WR Cooper Kupp and acquire some more picks for the draft.
