What could the market for Minkah look like?

The offseason of change for the Miami Dolphins may just be getting started.

Tyreek Hill? Gone. Bradley Chubb? Waiting for his release to be finalized. Tua Tagovailoa? Presumably on the outs. Star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick may be next. A headline earlier this week indicated that Fitzpatrick is a player that the Dolphins are fielding calls on from “multiple teams”, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz. What kind of market could Fitzpatrick garner? I tapped in some of my colleagues at A to Z Sports to send hypothetical trade offers for Fitzpatrick.

Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati receives: S Minkah Fitzpatrick
Miami receives: WR Andrei Iosivas and 2026 6th round pick

“Miami has everyone in the league looking at them knowing what’s up. Several notable players have been released, and now one of their best players with one year left on his contract is being discussed as a trade piece. Combine that with the free agent safety class looking extremely deep, and Miami doesn’t have a ton of leverage despite Fitzpatrick still being really good. The Bengals are expected to be active in that FA safety market, but they also have the salary cap space to absorb Fitzpatrick’s $15.6 cap hit as the acquiring team. They also have a starting-level receiver in Iosivas to offer following Tyreek Hill’s release from the Dolphins. The Joe Flacco trade also netted Cincy with an extra sixth-round pick, so Miami can add a pick to a round in the 2026 NFL Draft it didn’t already have. Trades are tricky with the Bengals, but with an extra sixth at their disposal and a saturated safety market ahead of them, this could be a scenario that works out for them.” — John Sheeran, A to Z Sports Cincinnati

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle receives: S Minkah Fitzpatrick
Miami receives: 2027 conditional 4th (play time could boost to a 3rd)

“From one corner of the map to the other in this trade scenario for Minkah Fitzpatrick. The Seahawks, armed with arguably the best roster in football after their Super Bowl win, will have to make some tough choices in free agency. One of those just so happens to be free safety Coby Bryant. A younger and ascending player, he could be in for a lucrative deal on the open market come March. Insert the need for a true free safety, and now the Fitzpatrick trade makes sense. The Seahawks can capitalize on their Super Bowl window by bringing in a strong locker room presence and veteran leader like Fitzpatrick. His cap number is a tad high for 2026, but the Seahawks rank 6th in effective space. GM John Schneider can ask the Dolphins to eat some of that 2026 number and sweeten the deal with draft capital. Fitzpatrick is no longer the best free safety in the league, but he was a versatile player in Miami, and just turning 29, he has a few years left in the tank. A plug-and-play replacement should the Hawks lose Bryant.” — Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports NFL

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas receives: S Minkah Fitzpatrick
Miami receives: 2026 5th round pick (150th overall)

“Safety is one of the most underrated needs for the Cowboys going into the 2026 season, and you know new defensive coordinator Christian Parker would love a high-end starter like Fitzpatrick on the team. Parker mentioned multiplicity as the theme of his defense, and a versatile DB like Minkah would give Dallas exactly that. If the Cowboys are serious about “busting the budget,” they shouldn’t mind giving up Day 3 draft picks. Not to mention, they’ve shown an increased willingness to deal late-round picks in recent years. That being said, a fourth-round pick may be a little too rich for their taste considering they don’t have a second nor a third this year.” — Mauricio Rodriguez, A to Z Sports Dallas

Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles (Rams) receives: S Minkah Fitzpatrick
Miami receives: 2026 3rd round pick (93rd overall)

“Under Les Snead, the Los Angeles Rams have never shied away from dealing draft picks to land immediate upgrades to their roster. And with them having two firsts this year, I think they are in a great position to deal some picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. One position they could target for such a move is safety. Starter Kamren Curl is set to become a free agent, and the team’s secondary was the weak link on defense. Dealing a third for a player like Fitzpatrick would open the team up to use other picks elsewhere. And position LA to make a run in 2026, which seems like the wise play given the mystery of how much time Matthew Stafford has left in the NFL.” — Destin Adams, A to Z Sports NFL

The Final Verdict

Getting an offer from the Los Angeles Rams that would give Miami a sixth top-100 draft choice in the 2026 NFL Draft is an exciting idea — one that I would greedily pounce on if I were the Dolphins and that kind of market were to manifest in real life. The Rams win this exchange but Seattle’s offer is one I wouldn’t sleep on either. The overall perception of this year’s class is modest — is it better to have a late third-round pick this year or, potentially, a late third-round pick next year in a better class? The incentive piece of the puzzle is the deal-breaker for the Super Bowl Champs though — a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
