One of the most intriguing 2026 NFL Draft prospects may have just re-inserted himself into the conversation for the Miami Dolphins’ top pick

The Dolphins have a major need at cornerback. One of the top 2026 NFL Draft prospects may have just put himself back into the conversation.

The Miami Dolphins‘ secondary is full, but also empty.

It’s a fascinating intersection that Miami finds themselves in. This group is young, physical, and woefully inexperienced & unestablished all at the same time. It’s probably a safe bet to assume the 2026 NFL Draft is going to bring a cornerback (or two) to South Florida. But one of this year’s best cornerback prospects, Tennessee’s Jermod McCoy, has been the subject of a lot of skepticism. He missed all of 2025 due to a leg injury — and then missed the NFL Combine workout. McCoy held a workout for scouts today and may have put himself back on the map.

Jermod McCoy, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, ran a 4.38 second 40-yard dash, posted a 38.0″ vertical jump, and a 10’07” standing broad jump at his Pro Day. The numbers are a strong showing for McCoy’s explosiveness as a player. That, paired with his strong 2024 tape at Tennessee and his youth, make him a compelling option in the draft for any team comfortable with his medical profile.

McCoy, who turns 21 in August of this year, is among the select view prospects eligible for this year’s draft who can claim such youth. Remember, there is an age wall that comes for so many cornerbacks at the age of 30. Having youth is an essential piece of the puzzle for cornerbacks in consideration at the top of the draft.

That box is checked for McCoy. So, too, is his tape — so long as you’re willing to grade him on his 2024 resume. We now also have affirmation of how dynamic Jermod McCoy is as an athlete, too. Will the Dolphins have comfort in the risk associated with his medical history and a missed season? That’s for us to find out at the end of April. But for now, consider McCoy’s arrow pointing in the right direction as the 2026 NFL Draft nears.
