Miami Dolphins DL coach Kenny Baker will be coaching the National Team's DL at the Senior Bowl next week. This gives them an up close and personal look at the talented group of defenders entering the 2024 NFL Draft.

This is an important development because the Dolphins, star IDL Christian Wilkins, and Raekwon Davis are scheduled to be free agents this off-season.

Of course, Wilkins is expected by most to be re-signed. Regardless, adding talented cost efficient DL is never a bad thing.

The Dolphins' defensive advantage

Coach Baker will get the opportunity to see which one of these young men will potentially fit the culture they have built in South Beach and their defensive scheme.

In addition, Coach Baker will be able to directly analyze which prospects are coachable. Instead of relying on their former college HC and DL coaches, he can see for himself.

This is an invaluable advantage from a scouting perspective.

DL prospects to watch

Duke's Dewayne Carter is a talented defensive prospect with three-down potential. He would work well as a running-mate with Wilkins instead of a cheaper replacement.

The same goes for Clemson's Tyler Davis. The alma-mater of Wilkins, Davis is an active-handed rusher that will make interior offensive lineman lives difficult on passing downs. He has strong leadership qualities as well.

Ohio State's Michael Hall is one of the most agile and twitchy athletes in the DL position in this class. He is a bit undersized but I know his personal DL coach and expect him to be ready for the NFL lifestyle.

The Dolphins can find a capable sup-package rushing IDL or a co-starter alongside Wilkins, albeit that he is re-signed to a long-term deal to stay in South Beach.

This is a win for the Dolphins!
