The Miami Dolphins have the most explosive offense in the NFL when it is healthy, but getting the whole group healthy has been a bit of a struggle for most of this season.

No player has epitomized that better than running back sensation De'Von Achane. Achane has lit the league on fire with his ridiculous production on limited touches, but injuries have kept Achane off the field for most of the season.

While it looks like the rookie could return this weekend, the Dolphins may want to switch up their approach with one of their most explosive players if they want him healthy for the playoffs. Maybe Achane should be held out for a few extra weeks just to keep his chances better for games that matter.

What this really boils down to is need versus availability. The Dolphins need to win their upcoming three games to maintain their position in the playoff race, but they shouldn't need Achane to do that.

The Commanders, Titans, and Jets are bad teams. The RB2 isn't going to make a huge difference in these games when Raheem Mostert and the rest of the offense should have no trouble building and keeping a lead.

The final three games of the regular season and the playoffs are a different story.

Miami has a chance to make a huge shift in playoff seeding with games against the Cowboys, Ravens, and Bills. Those are games where Achane could be a difference-maker. The ability to wear any of those groups down with Mostert and then bring Achane in as a change of pace option would be a massive plus against those high-powered defenses.

That can't happen if Achane gets hurt again.

One season may not be a huge sample size, but it would be fair to say Achane has been injury-prone this year. Putting him back on the field this week or even during these other easier games only makes the chances of reinjury higher, and that would hurt the Dolphins' chances in these key games.

At this point, resting Achane longer than necessary hurts no one and should do nothing to change the outcome in these upcoming games. If that does even the slightest bit to help Achane during the final relevant stretch, the Dolphins shouldn't think twice about it.
