The Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are both locked in on their upcoming playoff games. However, Tom Brady’s pending free agency has already started to take over the news cycle.
Last offseason, the Dolphins attempted to move on from quarterback Tua Tagovaiola and tried to replace him with Tom Brady. That, along with their efforts to sign Sean Payton, led to the Dolphins having their 2023 first-round pick stripped due to anti-tampering rules.
The 45-year-old quarterback will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, and the Dolphins are once again in the mix to sign him. The possibility of a Brady – Miami marriage is “definitely on the table.” according to Pro Football Talk.
While Tua has been very successful while on the field this year, the story of the season has been his ongoing concussion issues. Suffering three concussions within a few months must be taken very seriously. Based on the amount of time Tua has already been out with his third concussion, there may be severe long-term ramifications if the team rushes him back on the field.
ESPN analyst Bart Scott talked about the difficulties of giving Tua a long-term contract, knowing that he might be one or two concussions away from having to give up football, Thursday on Get Up. Scott later brought up Brady as a potential replacement, suggesting that the Dolphins need a proven quarterback after going all in this past season. He also mentions the connections Brady has with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, as both have heavy ties to the University of Michigan.
The Dolphins have built an excellent roster over the past few seasons, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They have arguably the best wide receiver duo in the league, with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and one of the brightest young coaches in the game in Mike McDaniel. While they have a few roster hotels they need to fix, Brady would be walking into a legit Super Bowl contender if he decided to join this team.
It will be interesting to watch what the Dolphins do with Tua’s upcoming contract situation and see if they stick with him or finally sign Tom Brady.
