The Miami Dolphins (8-6) came up just short in a 32-29 loss on the road to the Buffalo Bills (11-3). Though the result wasn’t what the team wanted, the Dolphins demolished a foolish narrative in front of the football world.
Leading up to Saturday night’s game nobody gave Miami much of a chance to win in a cold environment where wind would play a major factor. Dolphins fans had grown exhausted of hearing the same statistics related to Tua Tagovailoa’s past performances in bad weather.
However, Tagovailoa and the Dolphins’ offense did enough to win the game. Tagovailoa finished 17-of-30 passing for 234 yards and two touchdowns. The Fins also managed to outrush Buffalo by a 188-150 margin.
In an attempt to discredit Miami, many pointed to the team’s use of heaters in last week’s road loss to the Los Angeles Chargers as a weakness. That theory turned out to be worth less than the paper it was written on.
Head coach Mike McDaniel devised a game plan conducive to succeed in the frosty conditions that Buffalo is known for at this time in the year. It’s something to build on if the team is to return to Orchard Park in the postseason.
More than anything, the Dolphins proved that they can play their brand of football no matter the weather. Miami totaled 405 yards of total offense while its defense provided consistent pressure on Josh Allen all night.
The Dolphins put forth a commendable effort despite being unable to complete the season sweep of its AFC East rival. That being said, what Miami learned about themselves might be worth much more than a win down the road.
