The Miami Dolphins could be in position to land one of the biggest names in the upcoming free agent class.
ESPN released an article revealing the best team fits for the its top 50 available players in the 2023 offseason. Among that list was running back Miles Sanders who checked in at No. 43 on the list.
Sanders' best fit, according to the article, was with the Dolphins.
“We have to see how the market develops for Sanders, who set career highs in rushing attempts (259), rushing yards (1,269) and touchdowns (11) for the Eagles this past season. But there is an opening right now in Miami, considering both Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert are scheduled to hit free agency. Sanders would fit in Mike McDaniel's heavily schemed run game and could see more usage as a receiver.”
Holes to Fill
Miami is in the market for a running back this offseason. With Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin hitting the free agent market, the Dolphins will need to make a splash on a lead back.
Sanders fits that role perfectly. He had a career year in 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles, totaling 2569 carries for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those were all career highs for the Penn State product.
He brings added value in the passing game as well. Sanders, who is set to turn 26 year sold this offseason, has recorded at least 20 receptions in each of his four seasons with the Eagles. He’s also coming off of his first Pro Bowl appearance.
Not only does Sanders fit the mold for what the Dolphins will be looking for in a running back, but he’s a player who is entering his prime. Spotrac projects his market value to hover around the $7-million mark annually, which isn’t exactly breaking the bank for Miami.
General manager Chris Grier has many difficult decisions ahead of him, but signing Sanders might just make for a match made in heaven.
