The Miami Dolphins could be in a position to reunite with one of its former draft picks.

On Monday, the Washington Commanders announced that it had released versatile safety and slot cornerback, Bobby McCain. Washington made the move to save north of $4 million towards the salary cap.

McCain spent his first six seasons with the Dolphins after the team selected him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. In Miami, McCain totaled seven interceptions and was known for his hard-nosed style of play in the defensive backfield. He totaled 254 tackles, four sacks, and nine tackles for loss with the Dolphins.

He went on to spend the last two seasons in Washington, which saw him set career-highs in interceptions and tackles in a single season.

With Eric Rowe set to hit free agency, McCain stands to be an affordable replacement. His fearless brand of football is exactly what newly hired defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is looking for in his secondary.

Keep an eye on McCain and the Dolphins as the free agency period, set to officially begin on March 15, draws nearer.
