For Buffalo Bills fans, the matchup on Thursday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins may have just gotten a little bit easier.
Speaking with the media before Thursday's practice, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel provided injury updates on a pair of key playmakers that have been sidelined throughout practice so far this week.
Running back Raheem Mostert will not play on Thursday Night Football, and fellow running back De'Von Achane, fresh off a huge day in the receiving game, will be a game time decision. For Achane, if he is able to play, it's fair to expect that his workload will be a bit lighter than usual.
Bills fans shouldn't let out a collective sigh of relief at this news while dealing with injuries of their own. Miami has plenty of speed waiting in the wings, namely rookie running back Jaylen Wright, who they traded up to select in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Wright didn't see game action in Week 1, but his opportunity might be coming in Week 2.
Wright is an explosive playmaker. He was one of my favorite running backs in the 2024 draft class. He has good vision, great lateral agility, good enough size at 5'10" 209 lbs to be physical in the ground game, and true home run speed. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds. Having the ability to go from Achane to Wright and not lose a step of speed is truly an unfair advantage for the Dolphins.
We'll see if Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel turns to him this week in some capacity, but it would stand to reason that he'll get his name called.
