Dolphins’ Jordyn Brooks just grabbed another AFC Defensive Player of the Week award — and probably making an enemy elsewhere in the conference as a result
Jordyn Brooks is turning out to be a pain to more folks than just opposing offenses.
The Miami Dolphins struck gold when they signed linebacker Jordyn Brooks to a free agent contract in March of 2024. Brooks, who was excellent at the heart of Miami’s defense in 2024, has been even better thus far in 2025. A team captain, he’s been charged with taking on a much more prominent leadership role and responded in kind.
Brooks is the NFL’s tackle leader as we enter the second half of November — with plenty of impact plays that have saved points for Miami and generated turnovers as they try to breathe new life into their 2025 season. Brooks nabbed his second AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season in Week 11 against the Commanders, adding to his accolades in Miami. And in doing so, he’s likely making an enemy for himself up to the north.
Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks seizes AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors from Browns’ Myles Garrett (again)

Brooks has been awarded the AFC’s honor for Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in the last four weeks and both times has fended off Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett in the process. When Brooks first won the award in Week 8, Garrett had posted a whopping five sacks of Patriots quarterback Drake Maye in a 32-12 defeat. Brooks? His Dolphins routed the Falcons 34-10 as the star linebacker rolled up 10 tackles, a sack, and three tackles for loss.
This week, Brooks posted a hilarious 20 tackles and a run stuff against the Commanders in a 16-13 overtime victory, whereas Garrett logged an additional four sacks and an additional tackle for loss against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland lost, 23-16.
You could, of course, argue that Garrett gets the last laugh. His Browns routed Miami earlier this season 31-6. But as the rest of this season plays out and Garrett makes a push for the all-time single-season sack record (Garrett has 15 already on the year), he’ll need to keep looking over his shoulder for more Miami wins and Jordyn Brooks big performances. So far this season, Brooks has been about the only thing capable of stopping Garrett from taking what he wants on the field.

The Dolphins’ defensive turnaround is real, but we’re still waiting to see one supposed strength formally and fully take shape
The Dolphins’ defense is better in a lot of areas as of late, but this is the major piece of the puzzle to watch.
