The Raiders may be feeling good after cutting dead weight with their head coach and starting quarterback, and the results over the last two weeks have been very positive, but no team on the planet really wants to face the Miami Dolphins right now.
Miami boasted one of the best offenses in the league before the bye, has some massive stars that can take the game into their own hands on defense, and now the team is as healthy as it has been all season.
The even includes rookie star running back De'Von Achane, who is set to make his return this weekend against the Raiders.
This Dolphins team has generally been full of surprises under head coach Mike McDaniel, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but even the most hardcore fan would've struggled to predict what Achane would do as a rookie behind one of the most productive backs in the league in Raheem Mostert.
Achane is averaging a staggering 12.1 yards per carry, has five touchdowns in four games, and is seemingly able to do it all of it on limited touches each week.
Seriously, how many backs can really pull off more yards per carry than yards per reception (12.1 vs. 7.4)?
The rookie back couldn't have picked a better time for a return. Not only is this game going to prove important in the long run in terms of playoff implications (with the Raiders somehow back in the mix), but this Raiders defense is primed to give up some huge plays on the ground.
A lot of people love to talk about the Raiders and rushing the passer, but their ability to stop the run is a different story entirely. The Raiders are currently giving up 4.6 yards per carry (T-4th worst in the league), have 10 rushing touchdowns against on the year (T-5th worst in the league), and do all of it against volume with the second-most rushing yards given up on the year.
Based on everything we have seen, the game is going to go something like this: the Dolphins will come out firing early. The Raiders aren't able to do much to slow down the pass either. Tua and the offense are going to start rolling, the defense will spread out to account for the weapons in the passing offense, Raheem Mostert will get what he wants on the ground and tire the defense out, and then a healthy, fresh De'Von Achane will come in against a tired, spread-out defense.
Does that sound like something the Raiders want to see?
This looks like the perfect game for the rookie to put together another unbelievable final line against a defense that can't do anything to stop it. Talk about perfect timing for everyone (but the Raiders).
Dolphins are set to see a return of biggest battle on the team
The competition is going to heat up again.
