Head injuries dramatically affected Tua Tagovailoa in his third season with the Miami Dolphins. Though Miami’s season is over, Tagovailoa continues to feel the impact of his concussions.

Despite starting in only 13 games, Tagovailoa was tabbed as the AFC’s first alternate for the NFL’s inaugural Pro Bowl Games. Since Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow are squaring off in this weekend’s AFC Championship Game, there is a vacant spot on the AFC's side.

However, ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques reports that Tua will remain in concussion protocol and will not participate in any Pro Bowl related activities.

The Pro Bowl Games, which take place next weekend, would have marked Tua’s first Pro Bowl experience.

The good news is that Tagovailoa has reportedly been making steady progress in the concussion protocol. This decision does not stem from any setbacks he’s had in his recovery process. Instead, it is a precautionary measure.

Tagovailoa finished the season with career highs in passing yards (3,548) and touchdowns (25), while also leading the league in passer rating (105.5). Dolphins general manager Chris Grier revealed the Dolphins’ plan is to move forward into the 2023 offseason with Tua as the team’s starting quarterback.
