The newest Dolphins signing will look mighty familiar to South Florida football fans
If he looks familiar, he should!
The Miami Dolphins aren’t letting the pending end of their season stop them from churning the roster in search of a few acorns. Miami, which is set to see its 2025 season come to an end on Sunday afternoon in Foxborough against the New England Patriots, has added a familiar face for South Florida football fans to their ranks.
In what could possibly be interim general manager Champ Kelly‘s final addition to the roster, the Dolphins have signed former Miami Hurricanes defensive tackle Simeon Barrow to the practice squad.
Dolphins sign former Miami Hurricane defensive tackle Simeon Barrow Jr. to practice squad
Barrow Jr. was originally a 3-star recruit who enrolled at Michigan State before transferring to the Miami Hurricanes program ahead of the 2024 college football season. He posted a career best in sacks (5.5) while also logging 8.0 tackles for loss while playing for the Hurricanes as a redshirt senior in 2024. An undersized player, Barrow Jr. was known for his quickness and ran a 4.90 second 40-yard dash at 283 pounds at his Pro Day.
Barrow Jr. would go on to be undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft and collected opportunities on the Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns practice squads throughout the course of this season before being released on December 10th.
Miami will be well positioned to carry him into the offseason — more often than not NFL teams sign their practice squad players to futures contracts for minimum salaries. All NFL teams must account for their top 51 players in cost against the salary cap once the league’s year starts in March, so young players who can occupy a top-51 spot and help fill the offseason roster are commonplace once the season ends. Miami presumably sees something in his film; as a signing this close to the end of the season that didn’t offer a corresponding futures contract would be considered an upset.
