No distractions! All football!

The Miami Dolphins were a team who saw plenty of players invested in their personal "business" last offseason ahead of what was a disappointing 2024 campaign. Names like Tagovailoa, Hill, and Ramsey were all at the forefront of discussions seeking new contracts going into training camp. This time around, the Dolphins have been aspiring to be a team without distractions ahead of 2025.

They took another step closer to that being the case on Friday afternoon after agreeing to terms with the final member of their 2025 NFL Draft class, second-round pick Jonah Savaiinaea.

Savaiinaea will receive a 100% fully guaranteed contract

The Dolphins' standoff with Savaiinaea came to a close on Friday afternoon, just days before veterans are scheduled to report to training camp. The 49ers opened the floodgates on Wednesday for the NFL's stagnant progress on signing second-round picks — an issue that was rooted in fully-guaranteed terms for contracts.

Savaiinaea follows suit for those picked ahead of him, joining Nick Emmanwori, Jayden Higgins, and Carson Schwesinger as rookies picked in the early to mid-30s who received a fully-guaranteed contract. Savaiinaea is the first 37th overall pick in NFL history to receive a fully-guaranteed contract.

It's a big win for Savaiinaea in more ways than one. He's primed to seize a starting job on Miami's re-made offensive line in 2025, which will see new starters at both guard spots and also at left tackle, with 2024 second-round draft choice Patrick Paul set to step in for the recently retired Terron Armstead. It's a prime opportunity for the Dolphins to re-shape the narrative around their offensive line but the best outcomes always involved Savaiinaea collecting as many reps as possible to be ready for the start of the season and win a job.

It's a win for the Dolphins because his talent is sorely needed but also because this is one extra "business" element that the team doesn't have to worry about lingering amid the start of practices. Jalen Ramsey's "business" took him elsewhere this summer. Jonnu Smith, although well-liked and a strong contributor from last year, was sent packing after his efforts for "new business" fell on deaf ears. Savaiinaea's "business" is now handled, which means this football team can be all about their collective business — trying to win football games.
