So the Dolphins might actually be cursed in primetime games as Tyreek Hill joins extensive list of stars to suffer major injuries in the national spotlight
For the love of everything, keep the Dolphins out of the primetime schedule!
The Miami Dolphins have suffered another major injury on the national stage. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill‘s gruesome knee injury early in the third quarter in a win against the New York Jets was the latest in a stretch of ugly injuries that this team has endured on national television under the direction of head coach Mike McDaniel since 2022. It’s a cruel trend — but one that’s getting harder and harder to ignore.
Who else presides on the list of players that Hill has now joined? Here’s a look back at some of the major injuries the Dolphins have endured on the national stage under Mike McDaniel.
Tyreek Hill joins extensive list of Dolphins players to suffer major injuries in primetime in recent years

2025 – Tyreek Hill dislocates knee on Monday Night Football
Hill’s season ends in Week 4, marking the second consecutive year that Miami has lost one of their best players for the season in a Week 4 Monday Night Football contest. Hill underwent surgery on Tuesday morning to help begin his recovery process after what is reported to be a dislocated knee with multiple ligament tears.
Last year’s injury in the same slate of the schedule?

2024 – Jaelan Phillips suffers partially-torn ACL on Monday Night Football
Phillips took friendly fire from teammate Jordan Poyer on a tackle attempt and would go on to try to play through the pain into the second half. Fitted with a brace, Phillips would eventually go down to the grass in pain and frustration — before it was later announced that he had suffered a partially torn ACL just three and a half games after returning from a torn Achilles in 2023. But more on that later!

2024 – Tua Tagovailoa suffers concussion on Thursday Night Football
Just two weeks prior, the Dolphins hosted the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 at Hard Rock Stadium only to see quarterback Tua Tagovailoa endure his most recent concussion after trying to run over safety Damar Hamlin near the goal line in the third quarter. Tagovailoa went down in a heap for several minutes before behind helped off the field.
He was placed on injured reserve and missed the following four weeks — Miami would go 1-3 in that stretch and miss the playoffs by two games.

- Miami Dolphins @ Pittsburgh Steelers, Monday Night Football (Week 15)
- Cincinnati Bengals @ Miami Dolphins, Sunday Night Football (Week 16)

2023 – Connor Williams endures torn ACL on Monday Night Football
Monday Night Football continues to be unkind to the Dolphins players and their knees. With Miami trying to pursue a division title, the team hosted Tennessee as a 9-3 home favorite on Monday night, only to see Williams go down early in the game with a season-ending knee injury. Williams would return to play for Seattle for half a season in 2024 before ultimately retiring midway through last season.

2023 – Jaelan Phillips suffers torn Achilles on Black Friday*
Technically not a primetime game! But technically a nationally televised, standalone showcase game all the same. The dreaded MetLife turf claimed Phillips’ Achilles late in Miami’s 34-13 win over the Jets, marking the first disruption to Phillips’ playing career in Miami and disrupting what was appearing to be a major breakout.
In this game, Miami also lost safety Jevon Holland to a pair of sprained MCLs that cost him several weeks of action.

2023 – Isaiah Wynn suffers season-ending quad injury on Sunday Night Football
The Dolphins entered this contest against the Philadelphia Eagles without starting center Connor Williams and right guard Robert Hunt. On Miami’s opening possession against the Eagles, Wynn went down in a heap upon contact while pass protecting for Tua Tagovailoa — he was lost for the rest of the season and failed to return to the lineup until the following December, a 13 month absence.

2022 – Tua Tagovailoa suffers concussion on Thursday Night Football
Where it all began. Tagovailoa had, up until this point in his career, endured some minor injuries but this was the first scary injury that helped to create a renewed conversation about head injuries across the NFL. Tagovailoa, while holding the ball and trying to take a shot downfield, was chased down by defensive tackle Josh Tupou and body-slammed into the turf. He would miss the next two games before returning against the Pittsburgh Steelers for a Sunday Night Football contest.
