Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is now one big game away from joining one of the most exclusive clubs in franchise history
The Penguin is on the doorstep of the rarest of clubs in Miami.
Sunday’s performance for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was not his best. Waddle posted just three receptions for 52 yards while misplaying two of his targets against the Washington Commanders. Thankfully, the Dolphins found their way to a 16-13 win nonetheless, with Waddle and the offense now left to stew over what narrow misses the collective unit had during their Week 12 bye week.
Waddle, even amid a subpar performance per his standards, has now moved to within 22 receiving yards of his entire total for the 2024 season, when he logged a career low 744 yards amid injuries to QB Tua Tagovailoa. His five touchdown receptions thus far this season are one less than he had in 2023 and 2024 combined. Waddle is on the upswing as the offense’s WR1. And, after the Dolphins balked at the idea of moving him this offseason, he’s now moved within one big game’s worth of production of joining one of the most exclusive clubs in Miami Dolphins franchise history.
Jaylen Waddle is now 149 receiving yards away from becoming the sixth player in franchise history with 5,000 receiving yards

5,000 yards. There’s only been five members of this organization to reach that mark while wearing a Dolphins jersey. Jaylen Waddle could be the sixth when the Dolphins take the field against the New Orleans Saints in Week 13. That’s the good news. With 4,851 career yards, Waddle is now one monster game performance away from joining some of the all-time greats in franchise history.
That’s the good news. The bad news for Waddle is he hasn’t posted a 150 receiving yard game since 2022, when he went off against Baltimore for 171 and two scores in Miami’s brilliant 42-38 come from behind win.
In Miami’s seven games since Waddle’s running mate Tyreek Hill went down with a season-ending knee injury, Waddle has been averaging 76.7 receiving yards per game, this despite posting just 1 reception for 15 yards against Cleveland in the heart of this stretch. So, even if Waddle can’t blow past 150 yards against New Orleans, the averages suggest we’ll see Waddle seize the sixth spot in Miami’s 5,000 receiving yard club by the end of Miami’s second matchup of the season against the New York Jets in Week 14.
