Quarterback isn’t the only change for the Dolphins, as Miami moves on from one of the most disappointing moves of their offseason

Happy trails, Judon!

With the Miami Dolphins now facing the prospect of three regular season games with now playoff motivations, it sure seems like the winds have changed. Suddenly. Head coach Mike McDaniel teased a potential quarterback change on Tuesday afternoon and should announce a benching for Tua Tagovailoa this afternoon — reports have rookie Quinn Ewers starting in Week 16.

But that isn’t the only change. The Dolphins are bidding farewell to a long-time veteran pass rusher who stopped by for a competitive season in Miami. Now that the competitive portion of the year is over, Miami is bidding farewell to EDGE Matthew Judon.

Dolphins are releasing veteran EDGE Matthew Judon, per report

This move frees Judon up for possible pursuit of playing with a contender the rest of the way. But it also sets the stage for Miami to see some young talent play. And, between you and I, Judon was appalling in stretches with Miami this year. He was a tough watch against the run, looked lethargic as a pass rusher, and struggled with basic assignments on the perimeter of the defense. Teams had plenty of success capturing the edge against him running the football — most recently on Jonnu Smith’s touchdown run late in the Steelers’ 28-15 win over Miami in Week 15.

Judon has just 10 pressures this season and one tackle for loss across nearly 350 snaps this season, including a stretch where he saw his usage raise in the aftermath of the Jaelan Phillips trade.

On name value, Judon’s loss is a notable one. But the product on the field offers a different story this season — moving on from Judon was the right move and one Miami probably could have made several weeks ago.

Matthew Judon’s 2025 season with the Dolphins

  • 337 defensive snaps
  • 0 sacks, 10 pressures
  • 1 tackle for loss
  • Released in Week 16
