The Dolphins started off the sixth round by taking Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington with the 184th pick. They followed that up with the 198th pick by taking safety Patrick McMorris from California.
Washington is an exciting player who's been in a tough situation at Northwestern and Virginia, but he broke through in a huge way last year in his one and only season with the Cavaliers. He ended up with 110 catches for 1426 yards and 9 touchdowns. At 5'8", 190 pounds, he's exclusively a slot player, but he is a burner and a tremendous deep threat.
Pro Football Focus had Washington graded as one of the best wide receivers in 2023. He earned a grade of 89.7 on non-screen receiving plays, good for fourth best in the country. His overall receiving grade was second in all of FBS at 92.7.
McMorris has decent size at 6'1" 207 pounds. However, he had an extremely underwhelming Combine, testing near the bottom among his position in vertical jump, broad jump, and bench press reps.
The Dolphins are clearly banking on McMorris' production in college, which was substantial. He had two seasons of 90+ tackles (2021, 2023) with 6 interceptions and 23 passes defended over his career in Berkeley.
