The Miami Dolphins are in dire need of help alongside star defensive lineman Zach Sieler, and the 2025 NFL Draft appears to be the team's last best chance to find a suitable partner for him on the interior for a crucial season this fall.
The Dolphins are particularly short there after losing Calais Campbell and Da'Shawn Hand, in free agency, among others. Sieler, Benito Jones, Matt Dickerson, and Neil Farrell are it at the position right now. Yikes.
Fortunately, there are a number of options available, and one could be right in their wheelhouse when they're on the clock on the second day of the draft.
The Miami Dolphins should consider Texas DT Alfred Collins in the second round of the draft.
Collins certainly has the body for the position. At 6'6", 332 pounds, and with a 34 5/8" arm length, he has the bulk and frame that you want. Some might question his testing at the combine with just a 26" vertical jump and 8'0" broad jump.
However, the productivity and tape overcome those concerns. He holds his ground very well against blockers and has the good arm length and brute strength to control blockers and excel in a two-gap role. He also has played in a number of spots along the line. In 2024, he spent just over half (299) of his 593 snaps lining up in the B gap (between guard and tackle), 146 in the A gap (between center and guard) and 129 in over tackle or "4 technique). With Miami's current lack of options, variety is key.
He had a breakthrough 2024 season for the Longhorns, establishing career high marks in combined tackles (55) and tackles for loss (6) while also posting a team best 7 passes defended. He earned an 87.2 defensive mark last year from Pro Football Focus with a run defense grade of 85.0.
Collins should be one of the first defensive linemen taken after the Michigan duo of Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant. He could go in the second round, and if he's there, the Dolphins should think long and hard about pulling the trigger when they're on the clock at pick #48.
