Miami Dolphins fans got some unfortunate and deflating news on the brink of kickoff.

Top cornerback Xavien Howard is listed among the Dolphins' inactives released by the team Sunday evening before the team's matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Howard, who is dealing with a nagging groin injury, was a limited practice participant on Thursday and Friday.  However, he told reporters during the week that he expected to play.  As it turns out, that was wishful thinking.

It could be a case of trying to avoid an injury getting worse.  That was the case with starting C Connor Williams, whose groin injury was exacerbated by playing against the Giants on October 8.  Williams is inactive today as well.

In Howard's stead will likely be Eli Apple and/or Cam Smith.  Liam Eichenberg will also draw the start in Williams' absence.

The Dolphins and Eagles will kick off at 8:20 pm ET from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
