The Miami Dolphins head to Baltimore this weekend to take on the Ravens in a key showdown between the two teams with the best records in the AFC.  Unfortunately, it appears one of the most important Dolphins won't be taking the field with his teammates on Sunday.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Waddle is not expected to play on Sunday against the Ravens.

Waddle suffered an ankle injury during the Dolphins' 22-20 win against the Dallas Cowboys.  He was tackled along the sideline and was hobbling badly as he came across the field.  The injury was initially announced by the team as a shin injury.

However, the next day, Mike McDaniel advised the media that it was actually a high-ankle sprain, although the severity was unknown.  Waddle missed practice on Wednesday and wasn't spotted during the media portion on Thursday, as one would predict on the heels of such an injury.

Waddle's absence would certainly be a blow to an offense that's struggled with the injury bug all season.  All five of the Dolphins' starting offensive linemen have missed games with injuries, and multiple key backups have as well.  De'Von Achane spent time on injured reserve.  Raheem Mostert has battled a nagging ankle injury, and Tyreek Hill missed the return match with the Jets due to an injured ankle.

In short, this is an offense that has lived on the mantra "next man up", and Waddle is simply the next in that incredibly long line of players.  Waddle has been as reliable as anyone on the team since he arrived, playing in 16 regular season games in 2021, all 17 last year, and 14 this season so far. He missed The Dolphins' Week 3 win over the Broncos with a concussion.

Cedric Wilson, Jr. will likely be called upon to fill Waddle's role against the Ravens.

The Dolphins and Ravens kick off on Sunday at 1:00 pm ET from M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
