The hits just keep on coming for the Miami Dolphins and the injury report.
Linebacker Jerome Baker was placed on injured reserve by the team on Saturday with a knee injury. In response to the move, the Dolphins signed LB Calvin Munson off the New England Patriots' practice squad and placed LB Alexander Johnson on the practice squad/injured list.
Baker suffered an MCL sprain in the Dolphins' 45-15 win over the Washington Commanders last week. He would be eligible to return after four weeks, which would make him eligible for the Dolphins' Week 18 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, if he's physically able to return by then.
However, the injury creates a potential roster conundrum for the Dolphins. Per Pro Football Network's Adam Beasley, the Dolphins have used 7 of their 8 injured reserve activations this season and only have room for one more. With both G Isaiah Wynn and Baker on injured reserve, that would allow for only one of the two of them to be activated, meaning the other would be done for the season. Chris Brooks is also on injured reserve and subject to the same situation. That would be a tough situation for Mike McDaniel and Chris Grier to have to handle.
Duke Riley played well in relief of Baker last week, and now the Dolphins will have another roster option in Munson. Riley has appeared in 45 games with 5 starts for the Dolphins since he joined the team in 2021.
Munson played for Miami from 2019-2020 and came back for part of the 2021 season after spending the first part in New England. He has appeared in 46 games with 7 starts over 7 years with the Dolphins, Patriots, and New York Giants.
Now, Miami will have to find a way to replace yet another impact veteran on its defense as they try to maintain their hold on the AFC's top seed.
