The Miami Dolphins are in dire need to get better in a number of areas this offseason ahead of a crucial fourth season for head coach Mike McDaniel in 2025. According to the writers at A to Z Sports in their latest mock draft, Miami could have a strong candidate to help fix one of those areas in the draft coming up in a few weeks.
A to Z Sports' Wendell Ferreira took Missouri OL Armand Membou with the 13th pick.
Here's what Ferreira had to say about the selection:
The Dolphins desperately need volume of cheap talent based on their financial outlook, so a trade down here wouldn't be a bad idea. But in this exercise, taking a player like Membou would be more than enough to fit the team's long-term plan. Membou played at right tackle throughout his college career, so he would immediately compete with Austin Jackson for the starting job.
At the same time, they would be a solid duo when Terron Armstead calls it a career—and considering Armstead's age and injury history, it's important to have a replacement plan in place. – Wendell Ferreira, A to Z Sports
I think Membou has the ability to compete with Austin Jackson for the right tackle job, so I can follow Ferreira in that context. However, I don't see Miami moving Jackson away from protecting Tua Tagovailoa's blindside, given the strong job Jackson has done there after struggles earlier in his career on the inside of the line.
Membou, to me, makes a ton of sense manning one of the starting guard spots, with recent signee James Daniels holding down the other. He's one of the few players in this draft who you can plug in and forget at guard, but also has the ability to play tackle. Will Campbell is the other, who is off the board here at 11 to San Francisco.
If Terron Armstead retires this offseason, which seems like a distinct possibility, Patrick Paul is likely the next to step in and start. Having a player who could play tackle in a pinch if Paul struggles or gets hurt is added value that's hard to ignore.
Membou also tested very well at the Combine, posting numbers at or near the top of the OL class in the 40 yard dash (4.91), 10 yard split (1.74), high jump (34 inches), and broad jump (9'7"). Miami loves their athletic linemen, and the big Membou checks those boxes.
We'll see if Miami has the option to take the big lineman from the SEC when they're on the clock on April 24 in Green Bay, home of the 2025 NFL Draft.
