Miami's performance was lifeless. Flat. Uninspiring. A group of players who entered the season with so much momentum and hype now look like one of the worst teams in the league.
Naturally, that's begged the question of leadership and what's going on in the locker room and behind the scenes with this team.
Mike McDaniel was asked during his postgame press conference if he's considering taking on more of an active role in running the locker room and less of player management.
"I think we have to assess everything, but I hesitate to overcook before I watch the film and kind of marinate on this whole situation, but there will be things that will change. It’s kind of hard to say exactly what those things are, but we’re definitely in need of it."
There's not much film to watch there. That was a performance by a team who looked as flat as a board. I won't say they quit or didn't try. They did, after all, grind their way for their first offensive touchdown since Week 2 with a late fourth quarter scoring drive.
But something's rotten in Denmark. You can tell. From the outside, it feels like more than just a slump. The body language is bad. You don't feel or see any kind of energy either on the field or on the sideline. It's ok to lose in the league. It's not okay to do it without a fight, and that's just how the Dolphins have looked across three straight 17+ point losses.
It might be time for McDaniel to let go of his relaxed and fun personality, at least with his team. Because this clearly is a group right now that needs a kick in the pants in the worst way. Might as well be the guy closest to them to give dole it out.
