The Miami Dolphins have been must-watch TV this year. Dolphins fans – and fans of high-flying NFL offensive output – have enjoyed watching Miami post video game numbers.
Conversely, the Dolphins have had disastrous performances this year, with blowout losses to the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens among the worst showings of any playoff-bound team this season. For those who say, "give me an A or give me an F", the Dolphins have given both.
As it turns out, the Dolphins placed among the highest-watched TV events of 2023. Sportico posted a list of the top 100 most watched broadcasts of 2023, and the NFL absolutely dominated the list with 93 of them.
The Dolphins vs. Cowboys game reached the top 10 of the national broadcasts of the year, checking in at #10 with 31.5 million viewers. It was the highest viewership for FOX's America's Game of the Week broadcast since 1995. It was also the most viewed NFL game of the year that wasn't a playoff game or on Thanksgiving.
It certainly doesn't hurt to be paired with the Cowboys, whose fan base is prevalent from coast to coast. It also doesn't hurt that both teams were in the hunt for their respective divisions and top seeding on their conferences at the time. There were plenty fans of other teams from around the league with high rooting interests.
Regardless, the Dolphins have gotten a lot of attention this year with HBO Hard Knocks and prime time slots. With numbers like the Dolphins have drawn this year, as well as the excitement the team has generated on the field, fans can expect to see Miami appear in prime time plenty of times in 2024 and beyond.
