The Miami Dolphins' most dire positional area just got a little bit less grim on Monday morning.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Dolphins are re-signing guard Isaiah Wynn to a one-year deal.
Bringing Wynn back gives Miami some starting experience back in the interior of its offensive line, which saw all three Week 1 starters become free agents. The former Patriots guard battled G/C Liam Eichenberg for the starting left guard position in training camp and preseason. He won the job handily and ended up starting for the Dolphins against the Los Angeles Chargers in the season opener.
Wynn would go on to start the first seven games of the season for the Dolphins. However, he suffered a quad injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was placed on injured reserve and did not return for the rest of the season.
While Wynn shouldn't be considered a shoe in for the starting left guard job, as the Dolphins surely are just beginning to make moves to address their interior offensive line, he provides at worst a very good backup and potential starter. That's particularly the case if he can improve his run blocking, for which Pro Football Focus gave him a career-worst 43.2 grade. His pass blocking was commendable though, as he allowed just three pressures in 224 pass blocking snaps.
Regardless, it's a much-needed signing that gives the Dolphins some stability and experience in an area where they badly need it.
