The Miami Dolphins defeated the New England Patriots 31-17 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. The win secured a season sweep over Bill Belichick and the Patriots.
Despite the dominance, there are still some believe that the Dolphins have faced an easy schedule, and that Tua Tagovailoa is a beneficiary of that. The Dolphins' best win so far – record-wise – is over the 3-4 Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.
The cold, hard facts over the last four season prove otherwise. According to the Miami Dolphins' communications department, the Dolphins and Tua are 12-1 in games where the Dolphins have faced a Super Bowl-winning head coach.
Belichick has been unable to solve the Dolphins offense with Tua under center. Tua is 6-0 against Belichick and the Patriots as a starter. The only games won by the Patriots against Miami over the last four seasons were with other quarterbacks. In Week 1 of 2020, Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions in a 21-11 New England win. The Patriots also edged the Dolphins last year 23-21 in a game started by Teddy Bridgewater.
Tua and the Dolphins will get a chance to add to that list next weekend in Germany, where Miami will square off with Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are coming off a 24-9 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
If Tua can outduel Patrick Mahomes and the Dolphins come away with the win, perhaps the media and fans around the league will begin to give a little bit more due to Tua as one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
