The Miami Dolphins' throwback uniforms have been extremely popular among the fan base. However, the Dolphins' brass hasn't quite seemed to share the same passion for them that much of the fan base seems to.
Dolphins' vice chairman, president and CEO Tom Garfinkel posted a message on Twitter/X in response to Darius Rucker responding to a request from a fan that he and Tua Tagovailoa have a jam session together after the season ends. Tagovailoa joined the Manning brothers' Monday Night Football broadcast and played Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" on his guitar.
The post quickly drew responses from fans calling for the team to make the throwback uniforms and logo the franchise's permanent ones.
The Dolphins introduced the throwback uniforms and logo in 2015. They were greeted with open arms by many fans, who consider the throwback and uniforms far superior to the current ones. After years of clamor, it appeared as though the organization seemed to be aware of the fervor for their more regular adoption.
That was in 2017, and the current inferior uniforms and logo have remained the team's primary ones ever since with no mention of any possible change in the future.
The team should listen to the fans. It's ok to admit a mistake and fix it. You don't have to remain committed to an error. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did that in 2020 by ditching their psychedelic alarm-clock-numbered travesties of a uniform design in favor of a modern take on their classic look from their Super Bowl XXXVII days. The Bucs looked sharp while raising the Lombardi Trophy in their first season wearing them. Look good, feel good. Feel good, play good.
The Dolphins, whenever the rules first allow them to – there's typically a five-year wait from the year of the last significant uniform change – should finally adopt the throwback uniforms and logo as permanent. When enough people are telling you something, perhaps you should start listening to them.
