The Miami Dolphins have turned to a name that many in South Florida will recognize in order to address a roster shortage on Wednesday.

The Dolphins announced they signed former Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Mike Harley, Jr. to their roster.

Many Hurricanes/Dolphins fans will surely recognize the name.  Harley, Jr. played for the Canes from 2017 through the 2021 season.

It was in his final game of his Canes career against the Duke Blue Devils on November 27, 2021, where Harley, Jr. put his name into the Canes record books in two big ways.  He posted 13 catches for 96 yards in the Canes' 47-10 win over the Blue Devils.  The 13 catches set a new school record for most catches in a game.  He also passed a Canes legend in Reggie Wayne in career receptions.

Harley, Jr.'s signing likely isn't a long-term one in Miami.  The Canes are hurting for bodies right now in their wide receiver group.  Jaylen Waddle, Odell Beckham, Jr., Braxton Berrios, and Erik Ezukanma are all dealing with different ailments through camp.

But success is rarely available without opportunity, and now Harley, Jr. at least has his foot in the door, we'll see if he can use the coming days and weeks to try to wiggle it open a little bit more and perhaps early some consideration for either a back end 53-man roster spot or a place on the practice squad.
