It was already a lost cause late in the game for the Miami Dolphins. Down 49-19 in the game's final minutes, the goal was to get off the field and just get out of town.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen for the Dolphins. Bradley Chubb went down and held his knee in significant pain while attempting to tackle Melvin Gordon with a little over three minutes left.
Chubb was attempting to stay in front of Gordon as the latter cut and tried to get away. Unfortunately, Chubb took a step and immediately went down and quickly grabbed his knee. Dolphins' medical staff performed stability tests on his knee, which is never a good sign. The cart was brought out, and Mike McDaniel came out along with his teammates. That's also never a good sign.
McDaniel didn't have any update during the postgame press conference. Chubb's injury status will be better known in the coming hours or day. For now, it appears a distinct possibility that the Dolphins could be without their star edge rusher for the most important game of the season next Sunday against Buffalo and the playoffs.
The injury luck for the Dolphins this year has been bad to a point of being almost unbelievable. Chubb's counterpart off the edge, Jaelan Phillips, suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon in the Dolphins' 34-13 win over the New York Jets.
Chubb was starting to heat up and making a significant impact since Phillips went down. He had totaled 4.5 sacks over his last two games against the Jets and the Cowboys.
Now, Miami will very likely have to, once again, look to someone further down the depth chart to replace the production of one of their most impactful players.
