There have been some obvious winners of the weekly NFL awards throughout the years. However, when a team scores 70 points, there's no reason to look any further for the offensive winner.
RB De'Von Achane was named the Week 3 NFL Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, three days after the Miami Dolphins destroyed the Denver Broncos 70-20.
Achane, who was limited in the preseason by a shoulder injury, broke through the wall like the Kool Aid man last Sunday. The rookie carried the ball 18 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns. His long run of 67 yards (and ensuing extra point) put the cherry on top of Miami's 70-point output.
He also added 30 receiving yards on 4 catches with another two touchdowns in the passing game. He was the recipient of Tua Tagovailoa's no-look pitch that put the Dolphins ahead 21-7 early in the second quarter.
The next closest competition around the league to Achane is probably fellow backfield mate, Raheem Mostert, who ended up with 82 rushing yards on 13 carries with 3 rushing touchdowns, along with another score through the air.
However, the top story of the top scoring team in the league was Achane, and deserved so with 233 yards from scrimmage. If Sunday is any indication of what he can do, Miami has a very, very good situation on its hands out of the backfield this year.
Miami Dolphins’ total destruction of Denver Broncos doesn’t sway oddsmakers
The sportsbooks list the Dolphins as early underdogs vs. Buffalo despite an all-time performance vs. Denver
