An area the Miami Dolphins must get better at is on the defensive side of the ball. Especially when it comes to pass defense. Ranking as the sixth-worst in the NFL.
Hiring Vic Fangio, one of the hottest names in the coaching circuit, will definitely help. However, the Dolphins need an upgrade at personnel.
Players like Jevon Holland, Xavien Howard and Kader Kohou being the exception. However, with Byron Jones potentially a cap casualty, and Noah Igbinoghene having been a first-round disappointment, the Dolphins could do as they did last offseason and look around the league for an upgrade.
A popular name that is likely to gain trade interest in LA Rams All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Someone the Rams could move on from this offseason.
A trade for Ramsey likely won't cost the same it did when Ramsey went from Jacksonville to LA. However, bringing Ramsey back to the state of Florida will still have a number of factors attached.
Ramsey only has $5 million guaranteed on his current deal and would have an 'out' in his contract during the 2024 offseason. A trade frees up $6 million of the Rams salary cap and the Miami Dolphins incur his final cap number, but it wouldn't be the current $25.2 million, rather what can be worked in the trade.
However, Ramsey is also 28 years old and coming off a season removed from shoulder surgery to both shoulders. Which didn't hamper his play on the field.
It cost two first-round picks and a fourth to obtain Ramsey but that was under his rookie deal at age 25. At this point in his career, it will still net the Rams a decent draft package but nothing close to what was spent to get him.
The Miami Dolphins have the need but only five picks for 2023. They lost their first of two first-round picks after they were found to be tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton. In November, the Dolphins traded the other first-round pick to the Denver Broncos in a deal for edge rusher Bradley Chubb.
It may cost them a pick this year and next year to get it done but a deal for Ramsey is possible and makes sense for the Dolphins.
