The Miami Dolphins are less than 48 hours away from kickoff against their Week 11 opponent, the Washington Commanders. The Dolphins are looking to stack together consecutive wins for the first time this season after a trying first two months that saw too many fumbled late game situations and a poor level of consistency in all phases.

Miami could very easily be in a competitive place in the standings right now — but they’re not. And so instead, they’re simply looking to stack victories. But with the right kind of performance on Sunday against Washington, they could put their opponent into the record books for all the worst reasons.

Washington enters this contest with Miami on the heels of four consecutive blowout losses. Each loss has been by 21 or more points, which is the second-worst stretch of futility in NFL history. With a 20+ point loss to Miami on Sunday in Madrid, the Commanders will tie the NFL record for most consecutive losses by that margin — per Pro Football Talk.

The Commanders are attempting to avoid joining the company of the 1986 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who went 2-14.

Miami would be more than happy to simply get a win. They should be. They’re a three-win team at the midway point of November. But it does underscore just how much Washington has been struggling as of late, whereas the Dolphins have posted their two best performances of the season in the last three weeks. Miami feels like they’re peaking. The Commanders are firmly headed in the opposite direction. The only question for the Dolphins now is if there’s more room for the Commanders to sink or if they’ll bounce back from bottoming out.

Washington Commanders consecutive 20+ point losses

  • Week 7 versus Dallas Cowboys (44-22)
  • Week 8 versus Kansas City Chiefs (28-7)
  • Week 9 versus Seattle Seahawks (38-14)
  • Week 10 versus Detroit Lions (44-22)
