Dolphins’ surprising Week 11 hero apparently called his shot before making the game-changing play in Miami’s 16-13 overtime win over the Commanders

The Miami Dolphins will fly home to the United States at 4-7 after a come-from-behind 16-13 victory over the Washington Commanders.
The Dolphins spent much of the first half leading on the scoreboard before needing a late missed field goal from the Commanders to have a chance in overtime. Once they got there, the Dolphins’ fortunes turned quickly.
Miami won the toss, choosing to defer the first possession of overtime to Washington in hopes of gaining better clarity on how to call a final offensive possession. They got that clarity expeditiously.
Cornerback Jack Jones posted his first interception with the Dolphins on QB Marcus Mariota’s first pass attempt of the extra period to set Miami up for a game-winning kick. In the aftermath of the game, there’s a fun new wrinkle to Jack Jones’ hero status — he called his shot.
Jack Jones apparently called his shot for a game-changing interception to his teammates on the sideline

“A great play. Literally…maybe a play beforehand, (Jack Jones) told me he was going to do it. And he did it. So that made that moment a lot more cool. He spoke it into existence, won the game for us,” said Dolphins captain linebacker Jordyn Brooks after the game.
“His exact words. He said: ‘Y’all stop the run, (Marcus Mariota) is gonna throw me the ball because he can’t throw.’ So that’s what he said. And that’s what happened.”
It’s a very cool moment for Jones, who has been through some hardship during his NFL career and joined Miami as a bit of an awkward scheme fit this summer.
Jones has always been physically talented, but he’s been more impactful as an off-corner, whereas Miami has been looking for physical perimeter players in 2025. Jones’ transition took some time in 2025. He was guilty of some frustrating moments, missed tackles, misread run keys, and penalties.
But on this day, he flies home a hero for the Dolphins and their locker room. Seeing Miami’s defense celebrating on the sideline as the Dolphins drove for the game-winning kick should bring a smile to every Dolphins fan’s face — this culture overhaul is showing some signs of growth.
The next stage for Miami? More growth in the win column. It’ll get its next chance in Week 13 at home against the New Orleans Saints.
