With a loss, it may be time to face the music.

The Miami Dolphins‘ Week 9 contest against the Ravens could serve as a major pivot point for the franchise. With a second win in five days, the team could legitimately claim that they’ve turned a corner for this season — albeit likely too little, too late. If the Dolphins do defeat the Ravens, those at the help of the football operation will have earned the right to push onward and try to maximize this transitional season to the best of their ability.

With a loss? Well, it could well be time for the Dolphins to proactively embrace some changes, particularly with the 2025 NFL trade deadline just days away. Even if Miami wins on Thursday night, they should be ready to pick up the phone and hear out any honest offers for players who don’t make sense long-term. But with a loss, perhaps Miami should spend their free weekend making some phone calls.

Who should be a the top of the speed dial list if Miami ?

The Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have been rumored to be in the market for either a pass rusher or a cornerback. Given their hot start, they’re likely out here big-game hunting on the market. Cincinnati pass rusher Trey Hendrickson would likely have made a ton of sense for them but the Bengals have floated along to keep their season alive and it sounds like Hendrickson will not be available.

How much would they be willing to offer to add one of Miami’s accomplished pass rushers? With a loss, Miami should be pressing to find out. This feels like the most obvious “buy” candidate at the deadline.

The Washington Commanders

Washington’s season hasn’t materialized how they’d hoped it would. The team has lost as many games as they did all year last year already and they’ve got a tough stretch of opponents head of them. The Commanders’ defense has struggled with just about every measure of defensive performance. Veteran Von Miller has yet to make his presence felt to the degree that the Commanders likely hoped for when they added him. The team’s sack leader, Dorance Armstrong, is out for the year with a knee injury. Could they be in on a pass rusher? Miami has been labeled as a team who could move “at least” one of their edge rushers.

For a Washington team that pushed their chips into the middle of the table this offseason, they feel like a team that could try to make a splash to save this season that is on the brink.

The San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have already made a splash by landing DE Keion White from the New England Patriots this week. But with no Nick Bosa and no Fred Warner, the 49ers could potentially be a candidate to add another name. Coach Robert Saleh loves to rotate his defensive linemen, and with Mykel Williams, Bryce Huff, and White as their top three players, there could be room for another name in the rotation.
