The legend of Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane continues to grow. Achane, a third-year running back who is poised to explode up Miami’s single-season rushing yardage list over the final five games of the season, has been electric this season. His emergence as high-volume runner in recent weeks has helped serve as the engine for Miami’s evolved offensive identity.

Achane, who is in his third NFL season, was rewarded today for his effort by being named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Month for November. Achane becomes the most recent Dolphin to win the award since Tua Tagoaviloa and Tyreek Hill posted consecutive titles in September and October of 2023. But Achane’s achievement means a little bit more.

De’Von Achane achieves more Dolphins history by becoming first Dolphins running back to win AFC Offensive Player of the Month honors

No Miami Dolphins running back has ever claimed an AFC Offensive Player of the Month award. Going back to the first recorded winners in the 1986 season courtesy of Pro Football Reference, it’s never been done. Not Ricky Williams, with nearly 1,900 rushing yards. Not Ronnie Brown as the Wildcat triggerman in 2008. Not the prolific Reggie Bush or the touchdown machine that Raheem Mostert was in 2023. We’ve seen quarterbacks like Dan Marino, Scott Mitchell, and Tua Tagovailoa earn the honor. Tyreek Hill did it at wide receiver. A running back? Never — until now.

Achane’s list of record-setting marks and ability to push the envelope is coming at a perfect time for his career — Achane is eligible for a contract extension after this season. And if he plays the next five weeks the way he’s played the last five, he’s going to have one hell of an argument for one hell of a payday.

Consider this the latest evidence of the writing on the wall. De’Von Achane is rising to the occasion and logging accolades we haven’t seen from a Dolphins running back. Ever. He’s posted 3,900 yards from scrimmage and 33 touchdowns in his first three seasons and still has five games left to go. Enjoy the ride, Dolphins fans.
