This Sunday, the Miami Dolphins (8-4) take on the LA Chargers (6-6) with plenty on the line.
Not only do the Dolphins want to stay close with the Buffalo Bills for the AFC East crown, but the Chargers themselves have maybe more to play for.
At the moment, the Chargers are on the outside looking in at the AFC wildcard standings. A game behind the final wildcard spot.
Much of the focus of this game will be on the quarterback battle between Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert. Both top 10 picks of the 2020 NFL Draft and continue to be compared to one another.
One side of this game will focus on the Chargers defense against Tua, it's the Chargers quarterback who is looking to make his mark in NFL history. To throw the most passing yards by a QB through their first three seasons.
Herbert ranks fourth all-time with 12,689 yards through his first three seasons. He can jump from fourth to first with a big game against Miami.
At the moment, former Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck holds the record for most passing yards in a players first three seasons with 12,957. A feat he accomplished just under a decade ago.
The Miami Dolphins do not want to be on this side of history.
Herbert only needs 269 passing yards, and the record will be his. Achieved in three less games than it took Luck.
On the year, Herbert averages 278.3 yards per game, meaning he would have just enough to break it at that pace.
Hebert has broken that average seven times this season, going 2-5 in those contests. Conversely the Dolphins have allowed more than that average four times this season, going 3-1.
Whether history is made or not for Herbert, the numbers seem to favor Miami if this is in fact acheived.
